Sicily is an enchanting island. I spent a month there by myself in my early 20's and (except for the major city of Palermo) never felt safer. The perimeter was occupied by Greeks at one time and with its beautiful architecture and ampitheaters is a theater-lovers dream.
What an inspiration. The Greeks and the Sicilians share a culture - actually Sicily owes more to Greece than to Northern Italy.
